On Saturday 28 September at 14.00 hrs we’ll be organising a game afternoon for children in the Badhuis Community Centre in the Leidsebuurt, Haarlem. The afternoon features the Aqua Heroes board game. Developed by Haarlem-Mutare, the game is aimed at primary school children in groups 7 and 8 and encourages them to work together to devise ways of providing rivers with sustainable futures. Challenges faced include drought, plastic soup and chemical pollution, and in small supervised teams the children learn to work together on these challenges and to think about the importance and future of water.
Part ot the Games for Goals educational programme, the Aqua Heroes game was conceived with students from colleges from the Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal and Germany. The entire programme consists of two other board games and an educational catalogue and is subsidised by the European Erasmus+ programme. The students developed a playable game concept that the teachers of participating colleges and NGOs from Germany, Portugal, Belgium, France and the Netherlands are now further developing into a fully-fledged educational board game. The game Aqua Heroes will soon be available for free in Dutch, French, English Portuguese and German for all primary schools in Europe.
This activity is part of the Ecotripfestival taking place in Haarlem from 28 September to 6 October 2024.
