Why this exhibition
In December 2019, the organizations Cartooning for Peace and Coerrier International published a report on the increasing pressure facing political cartoonists throughout the world. Five years after the attack on the editors of the satirical French magazine Charlie Hebdo, the world seems to have forgotten how important the critical monitoring of power is.
That’s why we continue to provide a platform for critical cartoonists. With the exhibition programme DE ONTMASKERDE MACHT (THE UNMASKED POWER) we’re providing a podium for various artists and cartoonists through two exhibitions and several lectures. Participating artists include the acclaimed cartoonists Jonathan Shapiro from South Africa, Ramón Esono Ebalé from Equatorial Guinea and Pedro X Molina from Nicaragua. All three have in recent years been awarded the prestigious COURAGE IN CARTOONING AWARD from Cartoonists Rights Network International.
