This year Stedenband Haarlem-Mutare organised a big surprise for the children of the Chirowakamwe primary school in the Zimbabwean community of Mutare. Dutch acting ambassador Eva van Woersem presented them with a thousand WakaWaka lights that run on sunlight. These sustainable lamps replace the unhealthy oil lamps used at home so that children can now safely do their homework in the evening. This was made possible thanks to generous donations from the WakaWaka Foundation and the Haarlem sustainable investment company Stan&Wende. Stedenband Haarlem-Mutare played an important coordinating role. At the same time, 40 lights were also sent to the children of the welfare organisation Wisekids Trust in the Zimbabwean city of Bulawayo.
In 2022 we will continue to carry out similar social projects in Mutare and Haarlem. We thank everyone who continues to support our work in this regard.
