Environment

Sustainability is an important part of the activities of the City Link. Environment is an important part. However it is not the only aspect of sustainability. Good social relations, participation and involvement of people with their own environment and employment are also important aspects.

The City Link aspires for her activities to sustainability by working together with other organisations and neighbourhood organisations in Haarlem and Mutare.

Environment
The City Link has worked together with the Environment Department of the City of Haarlem and Environment Africa on projects. The Environment Department has supported the development of urban agriculture projects in Mutare. The expertise for the projects was provided by Environment Africa.

An important problems for the City of Mutare are the supply of water to the Townships. There is enough water available but the supply to the neighbourhoods is insufficient.

Another problem is the discharge of raw sewage to the Sakubva river. This is mainly a problem of the environment and people living in the rural areas downstream. However it is seen as an urgent problem that has to be solved. The capacity of the existing sewage plant is to small (if it is not broken down) and there is no money to finish the new plant.

Lochem

The Town of Lochem (province of Gelderland) has started a project to develop a cooperation with groups and organisations at Mutare. The main contact is trough Local Action 21 and Environment Africa. The aim of the cooperation is to learn from each other on environmental problems.

The planning is that a delegation visit the Netherlands in the second half of 2008. The City Link Haarlem-Mutare remains involved in the contacts.
