Exhibition 'Hidden Stories'

This autumn the City Link will organize an exhibition in the St. Bavo Church at the Grote Markt in Haarlem about the hidden stories in Zimbabwean art.

Art often is a safe place for the expression of opinions, also in the societies where this freedom is limited. The central topic of the exhibition will be how protests based on an ideology are reflected in Zimbabwean art.

With a variety of sculptures, paintings, music and literature, the visitor will get an impression of the political and economical circumstances in Zimbabwe through the years.

This exhibition presents the vision of the artists on the white minority regime during Rhodesia, the battle for freedom and on the regime of the current president Mugabe after the declaration of independence of Zimbabwe in 1980. Stories need to be told, stories hidden in art.

With this exhibition the City Link Haarlem – Mutare wants to stress the importance of expression of opinion. Especially now this right is being suppressed.
