Art Library
With projects and exchanges both people from Haarlem and Mutare can learn more about each other and each other’s culture. Artists from both cities can benefit from one another’s knowledge.
Artist from Mutare have requested for more information about art and art disciplines in the form of a library. Because of this, the Culture Committee of the City Link has started to collect art books and money for a local art library. This art library will be the central point where artists can gain inspiration and knowledge for their own work.
Why is art so important for Mutare?
Art is a universal form for exchanging information. Artists from Zimbabwe use their art expressions to draw the attention to the problems in their country and to inform the inhabitants. Expansion of HIV/aids, social and political problems is ‘discussed’ through art. Through theatre children (but as well adults) are educated. Also other disciplines like, painting, sculpturing, photography and dance are used for this.
Les demoiselles d'Avignon Pablo Picasso 1907.
This painting is considered the starting point of modern art. It’s also the first paiting showing clear African influences.

How can you help?
Art books are needed for an art library. Most Zimbabweans speak and read English well, and hence we are looking for English art books. Also we lack books about African forms and styles of art, and therefore we welcome those too!
So if you are in the possession of English art books, let us know!
What books are suitable?
All English art books are qualified. Go through your bookshelves, and donate those books you are not using anymore. Bring these books over to town twinning and we make sure that they will reach their destination and will be read frequently.
But how does that work with the books?
The books will be stored in the library of the Mutare Technical College, where they can be used by students and artists. There they are accessible for artists in Mutare, as well for future talent. All books are welcome. In case of a surplus of books in one discipline, we choose the most qualified books and the remains will be used for different books, to complete the library.
No books to donate but want to help?
